For jQuery or any Javascript files, use the YUI compressor to minify your files for quicker downloading! It works a lot better than other minifiers out there.

I would LOVE the WORDPRESS BOOK!
I am a baby web designer – every day I learn SO much to make my life easier. Most recently I learned a FABULOUS new tip for wordpress.

If you are like me and know mostly HTML and CSS – the php involved with wordpress can sometimes be confusing. You look at the source code from the site and have no clue how to make things look like you want in the actual file!

If you didn’t already know, the php in the file is dynamically generating the html – I know, too complicated for me too… I’m no programmer.

BUT! If you use your fireftp to see what CSS class or id is controlling the div that the php script is running, you can make any part of that page adapt just the way you know how!

I know i sound way too excited, but it took me entirely too long to figure this out, there has to be someone else out there as flighty as me

Create a custom.css and work your skillz to make that php page beautimous! The thesis theme does a spectacular job of making this process work to perfection.

I’ve used jQuery in my site but my only advice would be to get someone to help you who knows what they’re doing.

I know nothing about WordPress so I can’t give advice, so I’d like WordPress Plugin Development: Beginner’s Guide to help get me going.

I’d love the WordPress book! My favorite WP tip is to try to learn a little bit about PHP before you start a custom theme- it’s not absolutely necessary, but it makes things a lot easier!

Probably the most heard tip but the one that doesn’t get through: use google to host jquery – chances are they already have it cached.

Ahh ok which book and a tip as well eh? I would love to get a copy of Jquery UI! My Jquery tip is this…

Javascript confirmation boxes don’t quite fit in as easily when using Jquery. Imagine you want to delete something for example. Pop over to http://nadiana.com/jquery-confirm-plugin and download her confirmation plugin to make life easier!

3 Tips about wordpress:
1) WordPress.com’s stats suck. Google Analytics are seriously limited, even though people rave about the, Mint ( http://www.haveamint.com/ ) however gives you a really good look at your site, and appears to be easy to extend. The WordPress part of this tip is that there’s a “pepper” (plug-in) for Mint that lets you track the subscriptions to your wordpress feeds as well as the articles people are reading on them. If you’re happy with Feedburner there’s a pepper that’ll let you see those stats alongside your normal stats in mint. Also there’s a pepper (or two) that’ll let you track return visitors by name (once they give it to you in a comment or something).
2) turn on askimet spam blocking if you haven’t already. It’s excellent.
3) Install the Raw HTML plugin ( http://w-shadow.com/blog/2007/12/13/raw-html-in-wordpress/ ) because you’re going to need it sooner or later.

And if I were chosen I’d happily accept the jQuery book.

My tip:

Install WP-Super-Cache on your blog since it really takes the load of your servers.

Also, make sure that any plugins you use for tracking statistics, related posts etc are compatible with WP-Super-Cache

Don’t use jQuery if you don’t know it because you will run into problems that you will not be able to fix.
