Big Bang Theory vs. Chuck – The Romance

Reading time: 3 – 5 minutes

I have put together the top 5 reasons why I think Big Bang Theory viewers will be more than impressed with Chuck if only they would give it a chance. Chuck just can’t seem to get traction in the ratings and now that Big Bang Theory will be in a different slot I think we need to appeal to this audience,

For those that don’t know what Chuck is, please visit my earlier post (Final Push for a Chuck Season 3) which gives you resources and a quick breakdown of the show. Also make sure to check out the Chuck Gasmic blog!

Each day this week I reveal a reason why you absolutely NEED TO WATCH CHUCK!

PS. I am also hoping to have some goodies to giveaway this friday so stay tuned!

Reason #2: The Romance

Both TV shows have two lead characters that are crazy about each other, and in both there are various reasons why they never get together.

Big Bang Theory

Big Bang Theory was the first show to test the waters of a relationship between lead characters (Penny + Leonard). For me it hasn’t really added to the storyline, but has take away from it. I used to love those moments when Raj, Howard, and Sheldon would mock Leonard for his ability to woo penny.

The angst in this relationship has been built around the fact that Leonard is too smart for Penny and this is why they don’t get together in seasons 1 and 2.

Chuck

Chuck on the other hand still has their lead roles apart (Chuck and Sarah). The prevailing storyline here as always been the “fake relationship”. It is obvious there is feelings here, but due to the cold-hearted nature of being spies, they can never actually let their feelings get involved.

This for me is where “Chuck vs. the Colonel” made its mark as the best episode to date. It involved Sarah taking a gigantic risk of committing treason to help Chuck find his father.

This is where we final see the two of them get to express their real feelings outside of the government.

I love this quote:

Chuck: Look, for whatever it’s worth, if I have to spend the rest of my days in a dark windowless room, I can’t think of a better person to spend it with.
Sarah: It’s not really how this works.
Chuck: What, we can’t request a cozy little two-bed, two-bath cell?
Sarah: Two-bed?
