Chuck vs. Big Bang Theory – Character Growth

Reading time: 3 – 5 minutes

I have put together the top 5 reasons why I think Big Bang Theory viewers will be more than impressed with Chuck if only they would give it a chance. Chuck just can’t seem to get traction in the ratings and now that Big Bang Theory will be in a different slot I think we need to appeal to this audience,

For those that don’t know what Chuck is, please visit my earlier post (Final Push for a Chuck Season 3) which gives you resources and a quick breakdown of the show. Also make sure to check out the Chuck Gasmic blog!

Each day this week I reveal a reason why you absolutely NEED TO WATCH CHUCK!

PS. I am also hoping to have some goodies to giveaway this friday so stay tuned!

Reason #3: Character Growth

Both Big Bang Theory and Chuck keep us wanting to watch by the simple nature that things evolve and change. If the characters did not grow, and become better people the show would start to become stagnant.

Chuck

In Chuck it is all about the heroes journey from bumbling geek, to “No More Mr. Nice Spy” in Season 3 to air this Sunday.

Chuck started out having been forced into being a spy by downloading this intersect into his head. He grumbled the whole time in Season 1, finding out that it is hard to hide this from his family.

There are also multiple times when his family and friends are put in danger because of this. Ellie becomes the nurse of a very dangerous agent of Fulcrum and Morgan (his best friend) becomes a target.

We go from this Chuck, to one who wants to get this insect out of his head at the end of the second season. He directly disobeys orders, and isn’t such a pushover to Casey and Sarah.

Season 3 coming up will be another step forward. Chuck will be sent on missions alone, and will be kicking some Fulcrum butt! You don’t want to miss it…

Big Bang Theory

Big Bang Theory has somewhat of a different way of growing their characters. They focus more on the romantic side of things. At the start, Howard was just a creeper that never had a shot at women. We have slowly seen him evolve into less of a creeper and actually keep a girlfriend for a couple dates.

We also see that Raj not being able to talk to women is starting to blur a bit. At the start he couldn’t make a sound around women and now he can make some noises around them… all be it annoying ones.

Chuck returns Sunday Jan. 10 with a 2-hour premiere at 9/8c before returning to its permanent slot on Mondays 8/7c
