Note: If you figure Hulu has already blocked Hotspot Shield think again. All you have to do is make sure your IP address is from White Plains, NY instead of the traditional Englewood, Colorado. You can check this here after connecting to Hotspot Shield – http://www.ip2location.com/. If it is from Colorado disconnect and re-connect.
Are you frustrated with not being able to watch Hulu, just because you are in Canada, the UK, or anywhere else but the US?
Well I have a screencast below that shows you the simple steps it takes to bypass this stupid problem. Why shouldn’t we be able to watch our favorite shows?
For those that are on a slower connection I have a tutorial below the screencast.
All you really need to get Hulu working is to download a program called “Hotspot Shield”… Download from this page.
Once you have it installed, launch it. It should open up your default browser and begin setting you up with an IP that is in the US. You will know when it is connected as it will redirect you to another page, and will have a green shield icon in the taskbar in the lower right hand corner.
Then proceed to load your favorite TV Show in Hulu (in my example Chuck). If you already have your video open before launching Hulu; you may have to exit the browser and then open it up to make sure the shield is working properly.
Any comments / questions let me know in the comments below. Happy times watching your favorite TV Shows on the internet once again!

I got a message:
“Based on your IP address, we noticed you are trying to access Hulu through an anonymous proxy tool…”
Any ideas?
That was on Hulu, by the way. NBC worked fine. Excellent tutorial, I will use this all the time!
dude!! this is great, i have been on board the anti-hulu-us-only boat for a long time and was unaware there was something like this out there.
@william yeah i think i got that error a long time. Just seems to work for me… try reconnecting at a later time and it might work.
@william here are some solutions:
1. Delete all cookies, cache in applicable browser (IE, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, etc.) before attempting a connection to Hulu or firing up Hotspot Shield.
2. After starting Hotspot Shield, got to IP2location.com to check that the IP is set for White Plains, NY (or some other place) and not Englewood, Colorado.
@Brenley thanks, I’ll try that.

There are far better ways that do not require a proxy and lets you stream video directly.

Fortunately I live in the USA so I don’t have this problem but I can see how this can be very useful for someone outside the US. They shouldn’t be deprived of Hulu because Hulu rocks!

That’s rather neat. I’ve been using http://www.freetubetv.net , SurfTheChannel.com and NinjaVideo.net they work great but I guess I can add this to my arsenal as well.

Where’s your solution for Americans who want to watch the BBC (iplayer)?
September 4th, 2009 at 7:01 am
“Why shouldn’t we be able to watch our favorite shows?”
Because somebody has to pay for it. If the whole world starts using up Hulu’s bandwidth without paying for it (by watching local commercials) then pretty soon hulu goes away and then nobody has it.

You don’t know why? I’ll tell you: the US advertisers don’t want to pay for viewers outside the US market.

is there a way for it to make your IP in the UK so someone in the states can watch BBC?

Question-Can this work in reverse. I want to watch some stuff on ITV in Briton. They won’t allow me to watch from a US address?

I’m a Canadian living in Germany, and I always get blocked when I try to watch CBCsports.ca. Does anyone have a trick for watching CBC hockey live streams outside of Canada??

Bogdan,
What is ovenvpn? I thought about using some kind of free VPN if there’s anything out there like that to get to hulu, but not sure how/who/where etc…

It seems Hulu derives its revenue by displaying US-targeted local adverts, thats why they wont let overseas viewers watch their episodes. Why not go the Youtube model – start an ad network like facebook ads, digg ads, google ads -
adnetwork = adnetwork + 1
then international advertisers will pay for watching hulu.
Personally I am too busy with pr0n and other stuff so I dont need hulu. If you really need hulu from outside US buy a US IP’d vpn subscription

Just buy a vpn account! They’re really quite cheap. I got mine from hidemynet after all attempts at watching hulu yielded little or no success.

Another way is by using G-pass. This is also one great alternative to AOL browser. If you want to know more, I have posted some details on my blog.

Try Skydur http://www.skydur.com/
Its much faster than other VPNs and proxies.
Its very simple, works out of the box, sets proxy automatically for you.

I used this guide and got Hulu working without any trouble. This solution does not use Hotspot Shield.

I have been watching hulu with the white plains IP with hotspot for months, and now all of a sudden it will only provide me with an IP from Milpitas, CA or Irvine, CA (both of these are on hulu’s radar and don’t work). Where did White Plains, NY go!?!? How can I get it to connect to a White Plains IP again? I have tried reconnecting a million times over and over… oh white plains, where have you gone!
November 13th, 2009 at 11:09 am
I gave up and purchased a VPN from hidemynet.com for 5$/month. I was online instantly. For that price, there’s really no reason to fuss around with crap like this anymore. Just buy a vpn, theres tons of providers, and its cheap.

Thanks Brent. I took your advice and you were 100% right. I’m watching hulu right now and I just uninstalled Hotspot. Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better! I reccomend Hidemynet.com to everyone!

Great, worked without problem, downloaded it and within 5 minutes automatically worked! soo thanks to this.
I was looking for vps related info this was superb
A M A Z I N G
I tried Hotspot twice before, was not working, tried it again after reading that Note on top. Checked my IP .. and Hulu is working fine !
But You still havent told us how we can change our IP to something in Hotspot
Sucker-alert! I don’t recommend Hula at all. I’ve read quite a few horror stories on the difficulties in truly removing this from your computer (which I too had problems with) and all the lovely cookies and hidden items it puts into your system to help collect data. In fact, I suspect most of these “hey, try out this great program” are on-the-take so to speak.

I use UnoTelly. It’s a specialized way to unblock Hulu and other restrictions. (http://www.unotelly.com)
While you can’t do the normal VPN stuffs like anonymous browsing, it’s a lot cheaper than VPN if all you want is to watch Hulu outside USA.
I just start using VPN account http://www.supervpn.net/
Great services! I am so satisfied because now I can watch Hulu and tv from all over the world!
I can also visit all blocked web sites in USA or abroad, bypass firewall, download or upload anything, watch TV online, listen radio and use Skype if it is blocked in my region.
Thanks! tip for NY vs. Colorado worked great!
Hotspotshield is not at all reliable. Go for a VPN connection instead as described here: Netflix Outside the US
vpn is a solution! I get one and it works great!
it is not hard to access, very easy and reliable!

I use Streaming VPN ( http://www.streamingvpn.com ) and it’s extremely easy to use. The customer support and pricing is unbeatable. More so you get the privilege to have top security on your account which is the most reason why I like to use. I recommend it for everyone. Thank me later.
